چکیده

The very recent development of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) provides a smart infrastructure connecting abstract computational artifacts with the physical world. The solution to CPS must transcend the boundary between the cyber world and the physical world by providing integrated models addressing issues from both worlds simultaneously. This needs new theories, conceptual frameworks and engineering practice. In this paper, we set out the key requirements that must be met by CPS systems, and review and evaluate the progress that has been made in the development of theory, conceptual frameworks and practical applications. We then discuss the need for semantics and a proposed approach for addressing this. Grand challenges to informatics posed by CPS are raised in the paper.

Position Paper for NSF CPS Workshop: Component-Based Cyber-Physical Systems

Cyber-physical systems are globally virtual and locally physical in that manipulation of the physical world occurs locally but control and observability are enabled safely and securely across a virtual network. The architectures for cyber-physical systems must enable realization of this key characteristic. In addition, cyber-physical systems are inherently domain-specific due to their close tie...

Optimal Time Utility Based Scheduling Policy Design for Cyber-Physical Systems

Classical scheduling abstractions such as deadlines and priorities do not readily capture the complex timing semantics found in many real-time cyber-physical systems. Time utility functions provide a necessarily richer description of timing semantics, but designing utility-aware scheduling policies using them is an open research problem. In particular, optimal utility accrual scheduling design ...

Toward Representing and Recognizing Cyber-Physical Autonomous Agents in Competition Using Event Semantics

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is observing an increasing number of incidents involving recreational drones, and imagining a future where every drone will be equipped with an Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) transponder that communicates and cooperates with the FAA’s Next Generation (NextGen) Aviation Cyber-Physical System in order to help mitigate aerial collision ...

Conceptual Modeling of Physical-Informatical Essence Duality of Cyber-Physical Entities

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) interact with real world entities, and must hold internal representations of these entities in order to handle them appropriately. Physical-informatical essence duality (PIED) is the parallel existence of the entity as both the original, usually physical source, and its informatical representation, as held by each agent interacting with the entity. The distinction b...

Time-centric Models For Designing Embedded Cyber- physical Systems

The problem addressed by this paper is that real-time embedded software today is commonly built using programming abstractions with little or no temporal semantics. The focus is on computer-based systems where multiple computers are connected on a network and interact with and through physical processes (the plant) via sensors and actuators. Such systems are often termed cyber-physical systems
